Noomi Weinryb is an Associate Professor of Business Studies and Lecturer in Public Administration at Södertörn University's School of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Business Studies from Södertörn University, an M.Sc. and B.A. in Organization from the Stockholm School of Economics, and a B.A. in Theatre Studies from Stockholm University. Her research focuses on civil society organizing, accountability mechanisms, and the impact of social media in authoritarian contexts. She has led and contributed to projects examining democracy promotion in illiberal regimes, transnational funding, and resilience strategies in civil society.
Her research integrates qualitative methods like interviews and document analysis, with current projects addressing civil society challenges in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. She has authored over 30 articles on topics such as philanthropy, digital activism, and organizational resilience. As a former research leader at the Centre for the Study of Political Organization and deputy director of the Academy of Public Administration, she actively collaborates with Swedish civil society networks and international institutions.
Teaching focuses on organization theory and sustainability, spanning undergraduate to PhD levels. She advises PhD students and has supervised Agnes Käll and co-supervised Petya Burneva. Her international experience includes research stays in California, Alberta, Seoul, and Cape Town, alongside presentations at global conferences like EGOS and ECPR.
Key areas of expertise include organizational institutionalism, transnational governance, and the intersection of digital platforms with civil society. Recent publications highlight mechanisms for organizing in polarized environments and the role of social media in crisis mobilization.
