Dr. Noemi Marin is a Full Professor in the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). She holds a PhD in Rhetorical Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park (1999), an M.A. in Communication from California State University, Northridge, and a graduate degree in English and Spanish Literature from the University of Bucharest. Her research focuses on post-communist rhetoric, Eastern European political discourse, and gender studies, with a particular emphasis on Romania and the transition to democracy.
Marin has authored or edited over 40 publications, including After the Fall: Rhetoric in the Aftermath of Dissent in Post-Communist Times (2007) and co-edited Rhetorics of 1989: Rhetorical Archaeologies of Political Transitions (2015). She has been recognized with awards such as the FAU Presidential Leadership Award (2010) and the Top Paper Award from the Central States Communication Association (2016). As an academic leader, she served as President of the Romanian Studies Association of America (2016–2018).
Her work explores transformative political speeches, the role of rhetoric in revolutionary contexts, and the intersection of media, conflict, and democracy. She has organized international conferences on topics like post-1989 transitions and co-edits the Journal of Literacy and Technology. Marin’s research bridges historical analysis with contemporary discourse, offering critical insights into how rhetoric shapes political and cultural identities in transitional societies.
