Noel A Warfel, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Arizona. He co-directs the Experimental Mouse Shared Resource and focuses on hypoxia-related cancer mechanisms.
- Education: BS from James Madison University (2004), MS from Johns Hopkins University (2006) as a Molecular Targets and Drug Discovery fellow, PhD from University of California, San Diego (2011)
His research investigates how cancer cells adapt to hypoxia through signaling pathways that promote survival, angiogenesis, and therapeutic resistance. His lab employs complementary in vitro and in vivo models to identify novel hypoxia-responsive pathways, collaborating with clinical researchers for translational applications.
Recent publications highlight his work on PIM kinases in therapeutic resistance (2021), mitochondrial dynamics in lung cancer (2020), and hypoxia-induced signaling interactions (2015-2018). These studies span oncology, pharmacology, and biochemistry with subfields in kinase inhibition, oxidative stress, and metabolic regulation.
- Awards: Molecular Targets and Drug Discovery Fellowship
