Noah Romero is an Assistant Professor of Native American and Indigenous Studies at Hampshire College, specializing in decolonial pedagogy and subcultural resistance. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Auckland in Critical Studies in Education and Māori and Indigenous Education. His research bridges Indigenous knowledge systems with global subcultures, examining how punk, skateboarding, and unschooling movements foster anti-colonial education.
Key areas of focus include Indigenous autonomy, anti-racist pedagogy, and global south solidarity movements. Romero's work has been recognized by UNESCO and the National Endowment for the Arts for projects exploring how marginalized communities reclaim knowledge through subcultural practices. He teaches courses on decolonizing education, Indigenous anarchism, and global solidarity movements.
Recent publications include Decolonial Underground Pedagogy (Bloomsbury 2024) and articles in Education Philosophy and Theory and the Routledge Handbook of Indigenous Education. His research spans North America, Aotearoa, the Philippines, and the Philippine diaspora, emphasizing relational pedagogies rooted in Indigenous lifeways.
