Noah Olander is an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the UC Berkeley Department of Mathematics (2024–present). Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam (2022–2024) and participated in the Hausdorff Research Institute's Junior Trimester Program in Bonn (2023). He earned his PhD under Johan de Jong at Columbia University. His research bridges algebraic geometry, derived categories, and arithmetic geometry.
- Algebraic geometry
- Derived categories of algebraic varieties
- Positive characteristic geometry
His publications focus on structural properties of derived categories, applications to cohomology, and arithmetic aspects of algebraic geometry. Key collaborations include work with Johan de Jong on weakly étale morphisms and Lenny Taelman during Amsterdam tenure.
- Scientific Awards:
- NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship
He contributed to the Stacks Project with technical proofs about perfect generators and bounded complexes, and mentored advanced middle/high school students in the LA Math Circle (now ORMC) through specialized handouts. His work intersects with programs at Columbia University, University of Amsterdam, and Hausdorff Institute.
