Noah Durst is an Associate Professor in the Urban & Regional Planning Program at the School of Planning, Design and Construction, Michigan State University. He joined MSU in 2017 after earning a PhD in Public Policy from the University of Texas at Austin. His research integrates urban planning, public policy, geography, and law to address urban inequality, fair housing, and voting rights.

His work examines structural factors driving residential segregation, concentrated poverty, housing insecurity, and spatial mismatches in housing and employment. Using quantitative methods, machine learning, and GIS, he advances empirical research on urban informality and equity. Recent projects focus on informal housing and voting rights for racial minorities.
Key scientific awards include funding from the National Science Foundation and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. His publications address housing policy, immigration policy, and the relevance of urban planning to contemporary social issues.
