Niël Conradie serves as a Researcher in Applied Ethics at RWTH Aachen University's Human Sciences Centre (HumTec), working under Prof. Dr. Saskia Nagel's Chair for Applied Ethics. His role bridges philosophical inquiry with technological ethics through interdisciplinary collaboration.
His academic foundation includes a PhD in Philosophy from the University of St. Andrews (Scotland), specializing in responsibility research and action theory, complemented by an M.A. and B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa).
Conradie's research critically examines collective responsibility frameworks in AI and emerging technologies, with expertise spanning moral psychology, action theory, and technology ethics. He actively contributes to multiple funded projects including BridgingAI, the VEREINT project on interactive technologies, Cluster4Future "NeuroSys" (German Ministry of Research and Education), and KIPeriOP (German Ministry of Health), focusing on ethical implications of autonomous systems.
He teaches specialized courses such as the upcoming "Ethics of Autonomous Technologies in Warfare" seminar for Winter semester 2025/2026, reflecting his engagement with real-world ethical challenges in military technology.
