Dr. Nishu Kanwa is a Researcher in the field of membrane biophysics and synthetic cell models, currently affiliated with the research group of Petra Schwille. Her work focuses on lipid rafts, membrane-protein interactions, and DNA origami-based membrane engineering. She holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry from IIT Indore, India, and completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Miranda House College, New Delhi.
Her research explores the biophysical properties of lipid membranes and their roles in cellular functions, including synthetic cell models to study membrane dynamics and phase separation. Key projects include investigating lipid domain formation via DNA origami and the interplay between bacterial cell division proteins and membrane phase behavior.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining nanotechnology, biophysics, and cell biology. Recent work includes reconstituting cytoskeletal networks in synthetic cells and studying actomyosin ring dynamics. Over 13 peer-reviewed articles span membrane engineering, nanoparticle interactions, and phase separation phenomena.
