Nisha Sutherland is an Associate Professor at the Department of Nursing and Adjunct at the School of Health Sciences at Lakehead University. Her research focuses on aging, gender, and health equity, particularly for seniors and caregivers in palliative/end-of-life care. She joined Lakehead University in August 2014 after earning her PhD in Nursing from Western University (2015), MScN (2008), and BScN (2004) from McMaster University.

Her work examines how social determinants like geography, class, and gender shape healthcare experiences. Recent publications analyze ethical decision-making in long-term care, gender inequities in hospice care, and caregiver integration in dementia care. She leads grants from CIHR, SSHRC, and the Public Health Agency of Canada, including a 2019-2022 CIHR-funded project on inclusive end-of-life care for dementia patients.
