Ning Quan is a Professor at the Department of Biomedical Science, Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, and an Investigator at the FAU Brain Institute at Florida Atlantic University. Previously, he held academic positions at Ohio State University (1998-2019) and guest appointments at Sichuan University (2009-present) and Hamilton Biotechnology (2017-present). His research focuses on neuroimmune interactions, particularly the role of Interleukin-1 receptor (IL-1R1) signaling in modulating CNS inflammation and behavior.
- Education: Ph.D. in Neuroimmunology (Duke University Medical Center, 1991), Postdoctoral work (NIMH, 1998)
Research Areas:
- Neuroimmune suprasystem formation
- IL-1R1-mediated cell-type specific signaling
- Neuroinflammation in traumatic brain injury
- Immune-brain cross-talk during stress
- Euflammatory processes in vaccine design
- Transgenic models for immune-neural studies
Recent Publications highlight discoveries in IL-1R1's role in fear memory, social withdrawal, and neuroinflammatory pathways, using techniques like patch-clamping, FACS analysis, and behavioral assays. Collaborations span institutions in the U.S., China, and EU.
Scientific Awards:
- Tanaguchi Young Investigator (1998)
- Stazen Awards for Research Excellence (2001, 2008)
- PNIRS Board Member (2018-present)
- NIH Study Section Service (2004-2008, 2010-2017)
Current Funding includes NIH R01 grants for IL-1R1 in chronic pain and TBI, with additional R21 projects on neuroinflammation regulation. His lab employs multi-omics, transgenic animal models, and neuroimmunological assays.
