Nina Reiners is a Professor of Human Rights and Social Sciences at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Law, affiliated with the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights. She co-leads the 'Global Challenges to Human Rights' research group and holds ties to the Graduate Institute Geneva's Global Governance Centre and the Norwegian Nobel Institute. Her current project, 'PROBONO - Private Law Firms as Transnational Advocates,' funded by the ERC, explores legal advocacy's role in global governance. Earlier roles include membership in the 'International Rule of Law: Rise or Decline?' group at Freie Universität Berlin.
Reiners' research focuses on agency and change in international law and human rights, emphasizing socio-legal approaches and transnational coalitions. Her 2022 book, Transnational Lawmaking Coalitions for Human Rights, won the ACUNS Book Award. Her work bridges disciplines, collaborating across international relations and legal studies.
Her academic journey includes a PhD in Political Science from the University of Potsdam, lectureships, and research stays in Madrid, Geneva, and Stockholm. She has advised on projects related to water rights, treaty body practices, and gender representation in human rights institutions.
Reiners' publications span peer-reviewed articles in Global Governance, Review of International Studies, and Global Constitutionalism, analyzing topics like UN expert body dynamics, state roles in legal change, and NGO collaboration strategies. Her work underscores the interplay between interpersonal relationships and institutional efficacy in advancing human rights globally.
