Dr. Nina Meyerhöffer is a researcher in the BiO Plus project at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, focusing on bilingual science education. Her academic roles include research assistant (2021–2023), preparatory service for secondary school teaching (2019–2021), and visiting researcher at Sophia University, Tokyo (2018–2019). She holds a PhD in Biology Education from JGU Mainz (2015–2018), with a focus on integrating English into science classrooms. Her research interests center on bilingual teaching strategies, science communication, and leveraging technology like video exchanges for international collaboration.
Her work emphasizes practical applications such as developing English-bilingual teaching units, evaluating student motivation in multilingual settings, and incorporating expert video exchanges to enhance science education. She has presented at major conferences including the MNU Federal Congress and the MINT-EC Cluster on bilingual education models. Meyerhöffer co-authored open educational resources (OER) on topics ranging from water quality investigations to augmented reality in sex education.
Her projects include WinUM³ (evolutionary biology education), BLUMEn-Labor (biology labs for schools), and Let’s Talk Biology, which connects classrooms with international experts. She has also contributed to teacher training materials and interdisciplinary initiatives like the Grünhaus-Projekt.
