Dr. Nina Lau is a Research Fellow at the Leibniz Centre for Archaeology (LEIZA) in Schleswig, Germany, specializing in Prehistoric Archaeology. She holds a PhD from Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel (2009) and an MA on the Pilgramsdorf burial ground (2004). Her career includes roles at the Centre for Baltic and Scandinavian Archaeology (2008–2023) and Archaeological State Museum (2005–2008).
Her research examines cultural practices during the Roman Imperial and Migration Periods, with emphases on:
- Grave archaeology: Chamber tombs, burial rituals, and social stratification.
- Military offerings: Germanic horse harnesses and war booty deposits (e.g., Thorsberger Moor).
- Cross-cultural exchange: Roman influences on Germanic material culture.
She led the DFG project Burial, identity and the afterlife: The chamber tomb of Poprad-Matejovce (2012–2015), advancing interdisciplinary approaches to organic artifact preservation. Her publications include monographs on Thorsberger Moor and edited volumes on Barbaricum burial practices.
