Nin Kirkham is an Associate Professor in the School of Humanities' Discipline of Philosophy at the University of Western Australia. She serves as Deputy Head of School (Research and Knowledge Exchange), Vice President of the UWA Academic Staff Association, and Chair of the VC's Student Experience Taskforce (2021–22). Her roles include advancing interdisciplinary programs like the Bachelor of Human Rights and the Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
Her research focuses on applied ethics, environmental virtue ethics, bioethics, and the ethics of technology. Key projects include exploring psychedelics' role in environmental virtues, philosophical inquiry in marginalized communities, and AI's impact on consent frameworks. She has received grants for teaching innovation, including a 2010 Research Development Award and a 2012 Teaching and Learning Development Grant.
Teaching interests span ethics, continental philosophy, and critical thinking. She collaborates across disciplines, such as co-teaching SCIE2100: Social Responsibility in Action and developing ethics curricula for engineering, business, and science programs. Recent conference engagements include the Australasian Association of Philosophy Conference (2024) and the International Society for Contemplative Research Conference (2024).
Publications highlight interdisciplinary ethics challenges, from medical consent in AI-driven healthcare to virtue ethics in environmental policy. Her work bridges theoretical philosophy with practical applications in education, technology, and community engagement.
