معرفی
Nils P Krone, MD, FRCPCH, is Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology at the University of Sheffield's School of Medicine and Population Health and Honorary Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. He leads the adrenal and disorders/differences of sex development (DSD) clinical service. He graduated from Ludwig-Maximilian’s University (Munich) and trained at University Children’s Hospitals in Munich and Kiel. Previously, he held a Wellcome Trust Clinician Scientist position at the University of Birmingham (2006–2015).
His research explores inborn errors of steroidogenesis, congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), DSD, and PCOS, employing zebrafish models at the Bateson Centre to study systemic impacts of disrupted steroidogenesis. Key projects include CAH-UK (assessing health status nationally), biomarker development for therapy monitoring, and adrenal insufficiency pathophysiology.
Krone's publications focus on steroid biochemistry, adrenal disorders, and DSD management, with recent work emphasizing translational models, clinical guidelines, and metabolic consequences of endocrine dysfunction. His research integrates molecular genetics, metabolomics, and population health.
Awards/Honors:
- Wellcome Trust Clinician Scientist Fellowship
He leads a research group at the Bateson Centre and collaborates internationally on DSD and CAH consortia (e.g., I-CAH Registry). Current PhD projects investigate androgen effects on follicle development and glucocorticoid deficiency.
