Dr. Nils Haentjens is a Research Assistant Professor at the School of Marine Sciences, University of Maine. His research focuses on optical signatures of plankton and satellite ocean color validation.
Education:
- PhD in Oceanography, University of Maine, 2020
- MS in Oceanography, University of Maine, 2017
- MS in Embedded Systems Engineering, ISEP Paris, 2015
Research interests include optical oceanography, phytoplankton ecology, hyperspectral radiometry, and ocean carbon cycling. Recent work involves developing autonomous measurement systems like HyperNav for satellite calibration and studying phytoplankton distributions in the North Atlantic.
He leads development of open-source oceanographic tools including pySAS (autonomous solar tracker) and Inlinino (data logging software).
