Niloofar Bavarian, Ph.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Health Science at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where she holds a tenured position. Previously, she served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Prevention Science Research Training Program at UC Berkeley and the Prevention Research Center.

Research Focus: Dr. Bavarian’s work emphasizes prevention science, with current projects addressing prescription drug abuse, high-risk alcohol use, and evaluation of social-emotional/character development programs. She employs behavioral theories to study determinants of health behaviors in youth and young adults, with expertise in program development and evaluation.
Mentorship: Committed to mentoring future prevention scientists, she leads initiatives like the BUILD Mentoring Community (BMC) and mentors scholars through the BUILD SURGE program. Her teaching spans biostatistics, health behavior theory, and community health education at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
