Nilgün Okay

Prof. Dr. Nilgün Okay is Professor at Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Mines, Geological Engineering Department, specializing in marine geology, disaster risk management, and geohazards. She earned her PhD from City University of New York and conducted pioneering research in Arctic marine geology.

Research integrates geological hazards with disaster resilience planning, ecosystem services, and gender-sensitive risk management. Current work focuses on spatial risk assessment and urban planning integration.

Administrative roles include departmental leadership and founding positions in ITU's Women's Studies Center. She has collaborated with UN agencies (UNDP, UNODC) and developed disaster education programs post-1999 Marmara earthquakes.
