Dr. Nikolaus Gantner is an Adjunct Professor in Environmental Science at UNBC. His research focuses on fish ecology, aquatic toxicology, and environmental biology, particularly in northern aquatic ecosystems. With expertise in fisheries assessment and migratory behavior, his work addresses conservation challenges for species like sturgeon and Arctic char.
Research interests include fish migration patterns, predator-prey dynamics, contaminant impacts on aquatic species, and environmental monitoring. Field studies frequently examine anthropogenic impacts on fish populations, including mining disasters and radiological contamination.
Recent publications document predation effects on threatened sturgeon populations, long-term monitoring of Arctic grayling, and impacts of major environmental incidents like the Mount Polley mine breach. Collaborative work engages northern communities in research partnerships.
