Nikolaos Terzidis is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, where he is affiliated with the Global Economics & Management department. He also serves as an Associate fellow at the FEB Research Institute and holds a University Teaching Qualification (BKO) awarded in December 2022.
His research focuses on the intersection of labor economics, globalization, and technological change. Dr. Terzidis investigates how technology and global production fragmentation affect labor markets, with particular attention to regional disparities and employment polarization. He also examines the political economy implications of these economic forces, especially their relationship with rising populism and electoral outcomes.
Dr. Terzidis has published extensively on employment dynamics, with his most recent work including a May 2025 meta-regression analysis on trade and technology's impact on employment. His research shows consistent focus on regional labor market polarization, particularly in the Dutch context, and explores the connections between productivity, trade patterns, and labor market outcomes across different spatial scales.
Teaching is a significant component of Dr. Terzidis's role. He currently coordinates Trade Policy and Economic Integration and Global Political Economy (both BSc 2nd year courses), teaches Country Studies (MSc 1st year) and Introduction to Economics and Business Economics (BSc 1st year). He completed an Effective PhD supervision course in January 2024 and currently supervises PhD candidate Tim de Leeuw who began in February 2024, in addition to BSc and MSc thesis projects.
