Nikolaos G. Paterakis is Assistant Professor in Electrical Energy Systems at Eindhoven University of Technology, developing optimization and machine learning methods for power systems and electricity markets.
Research focuses on renewable integration challenges: 1) Real-time control strategies for distribution networks, 2) Market design for local flexibility trading, and 3) Cloud-based energy management systems. Leads projects including QUASAR (quantum-assisted optimization) and DACS-HW (collective heat pump control).
Recent publications demonstrate innovations in reinforcement learning applications for grid operation, congestion management, and market reliability assessment. Work consistently bridges theoretical optimization with practical energy system challenges.
