Nikolai Slavov is a Professor in the Department of Biology and Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Northeastern University. He holds affiliations with the Barnett Institute of Chemical and Biological Analysis and the Bioengineering Department. His research focuses on single-cell proteomics and quantitative systems biology, particularly exploring ribosome-mediated translational regulation and proteome heterogeneity. He directs the Single-Cell Proteomics Center and is an Allen Distinguished Investigator.
- Education: B.S. from MIT (2004), Ph.D. in Princeton University’s Botstein Lab (2010).
- Postdoctoral Work: van Oudenaarden Lab at MIT, studying cellular metabolism and the Warburg effect.
His lab develops groundbreaking methods like SCoPE-MS/SCoPE2 for high-throughput single-cell proteomics. Key contributions include revealing proteome asymmetry in embryos, differential ribosomal protein stoichiometry, and mechanisms underlying metabolic states during growth. His work bridges systems biology, proteomics, and clinical applications.
Scientific Awards: Allen Distinguished Investigator Award (Allen Frontiers Group).
Lab & Collaborations: The Slavov Lab collaborates on technologies like DART-ID for improved peptide identification and plexDIA for multiplexed proteomics. They investigate protein dynamics in health and disease, including cancer and aging, using single-cell approaches.
