Niklas Psilander is an Associate Professor (Docent) and senior lecturer in Sport Science at the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences (GIH), specializing in exercise physiology and sports science. He holds a PhD in Physiology and is affiliated with the Department of Physiology, Nutrition and Biomechanics. His research focuses on muscle biology, strength training adaptations, and the molecular mechanisms underlying human performance. Psilander has extensive experience in investigating skeletal muscle responses to various training modalities, including resistance training, high-intensity interval training, and blood flow restriction protocols.
His academic contributions span over 28 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work emphasizing myonuclear retention after muscle injury and the long-term effects of training on muscle memory. He collaborates with elite sports teams and researchers globally, exploring topics like optimization of combination training for athletes and reliability of performance metrics in team sports.
Psilander's work bridges basic physiological research with applied sports science, addressing practical questions for coaches and athletes. He maintains an ORCID profile (0000-0003-1848-5491) and actively publishes on topics ranging from muscle hypertrophy to elite athlete performance profiling.
