Niklas Nielsen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Helsingborg, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University. He holds multiple roles including Head of Office, Project Manager, Supervisor, and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. As a Consultant in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Helsingborg Hospital, his clinical and research work centers on cardiac arrest and critical care.
Dr. Nielsen's research focuses on optimizing post-cardiac arrest care, with emphasis on targeted temperature management, clinical trial methodology, and outcome prediction. He pioneered the International Cardiac Arrest Registry (INTCAR) and led the landmark TTM-trial comparing 33°C versus 36°C. His current work includes the TTM2-trial and investigations into proteomics, fluid management, and virtual interventions for survivors. This research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
His 2025 publications demonstrate a strong interdisciplinary focus, spanning proteomics in cardiac arrest, fluid resuscitation in septic shock, physical activity rehabilitation, quality-of-life assessments, and virtual psychoeducational care. These works highlight his leadership in large-scale clinical trials and his commitment to translating research into improved patient outcomes across cardiology, critical care, and rehabilitation domains.
Dr. Nielsen actively mentors two PhD students and collaborates on multiple TTM-study group projects. His research is supported by significant grants from:

His research group collaborates internationally through the TTM-study group and the International Cardiac Arrest Registry.
