Nikitia Mexia is a Research Fellow in Bioprocessing for Healthcare at the School of Design, University of Leeds. Her expertise spans natural product chemistry, biocatalysis, flow chemistry, and smart textiles, with applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and sustainable materials.
- BSc, MSc, and PhD in Pharmacy from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
Her research focuses on isolating and synthesizing bioactive compounds from plants and microorganisms, developing eco-friendly extraction methods, and exploring natural pigments for textiles and hair care materials. She has pioneered biocatalytic reactions in flow and collaborated with Unilever, FIOCRUZ, and EU-funded laboratories in Brazil, Bulgaria, and France.
Recent projects include Smart Multifunctional Textiles with Printed Electronics for musculoskeletal health applications. Her work is funded by BBSRC, EPSRC, IUK, and the Clothworkers’ Company.
