Nikita Basov is a Senior Lecturer in Network Analysis and Social Statistics at the University of Manchester. He holds additional affiliations including a 2023-2024 fellowship at the Paris Institute for Advanced Studies and previously served as Head of Science at the Centre for German and European Studies (St. Petersburg University-Bielefeld University). He earned his PhD in Sociology from St. Petersburg University in 2009 and has held research positions there from 2005 to 2022.
His research focuses on social mechanisms underlying cultural/meaning creation, employing methods like statistical network modeling, computational text analysis, and socio-semantic network analysis. Key projects include 'Socio-Semantic Patterning of European Intellectual Landscape' and 'Creation of Knowledge on Ecological Hazards'.
He has received prestigious awards such as the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Award (2022) and the FIAS Fellowship (2023). His work addresses interdisciplinary topics like environmental communication, artistic collaboration dynamics, and socio-cultural network structures.
Basov teaches advanced network analysis courses including 'Statistical Models for Social Networks' at the MSc level and contributes to the Cathie Marsh Institute. He has organized over 100 academic events, including the 'Networks in the Global World' conference series and the 'St Petersburg Summer Schools in Network Analysis'.
