Dr. Nikica Šprem is an Associate Professor at the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Agriculture, affiliated with the Department of Fisheries, Apiculture, Wildlife management and special Zoology. With a PhD in Agricultural Sciences (2005-2009) and a graduate degree in Agriculture Engineering (1996-2004), they have been employed at the University of Zagreb since 2005, progressing through roles as young scientist (2005-2012), assistant professor (2012-2017), and associate professor (since 2017). Their work spans Croatian and Mediterranean ecosystems.

Research Interests: Their research focuses on Wildlife Biology, Population Genetics, and Wildlife Management. They investigate ecological dynamics, conservation strategies, and genetic implications of game species in Mediterranean habitats, including wild boars, chamois, and eels. Their work also addresses xenobiotic impacts on native animal species and stressor effects on biological products.
Key Projects: Dr. Šprem has coordinated/cooperated on projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation (e.g., Wild Boar Stress Studies, Balkan Chamois Genetics), Horizon 2020, LIFE+, and EFSA. Notable collaborations include the European Wildlife Professionals Network and the University of Sassari's PhD program in Life Sciences.
Teaching: They teach courses on wildlife ecology, conservation, research methods, and processing technologies for aquatic/game meat, both at Zagreb's Faculty of Agriculture and internationally.
Affiliations: Currently working at the Division for Animal Sciences, with office in Bijela vila. Their work involves international partnerships and technical consulting on radioactive waste monitoring.
