Niki Tsironi is an Adjunct Professor of Byzantine Studies at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for Hellenic Studies of Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, Canada) and an Associate in Byzantine Studies at the Center for Hellenic Studies of Harvard University (Washington D.C.). She has been affiliated with the Institute for Historical Research (National Hellenic Research Foundation) since 2000. Her academic background includes a PhD in Late Antique and Byzantine Studies from King’s College London, alongside a graduate certificate in psychology from the American College of Greece (ACG, 2022).
Her research focuses on Byzantine cultural history, encompassing the cult of the Virgin, performance and performativity, and the role of emotions and senses in Byzantine culture. She currently directs a transdisciplinary research project on emotion in history and psychology, collaborating with the IHR/NHRF, Harvard’s CHS, and the Laboratory for Human Relations. This project examines intersections of time, gender, and society through historical and psychological lenses.
Niki Tsironi also holds a visiting fellowship at the Institute for Hellenic Culture and Liberal Arts of the American College of Greece (since March 2023). Her work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary psychological frameworks, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to cultural analysis.
