Professor Niki Edwards is a faculty member at the University of Southern Queensland's School of Psychology and Wellbeing. She holds a BSocWk (1982), BA (1992), MPubAdm (2000), and PhD (2007) from Queensland institutions. Her research focuses on disability inclusion, maternal healthcare access for marginalized groups, disaster communication barriers, and social work practices in health contexts. She contributes to the Centre for Health Research and Strategic Academic Projects.
Recent work addresses healthcare equity for women with disabilities in Vietnam, leadership pathways for African women with disabilities, and chemical restraint practices in intellectual disability care. Her teaching innovations include problem-based learning approaches in social work education.
Supervising doctoral research on cultural barriers in disaster communication, neurodivergent student experiences, and NDIS access for refugees, she emphasizes intersectional approaches to healthcare and social policy. Her interdisciplinary collaborations span global health equity, gender studies, and rural health disparities.
