Nika Somborac

Nika Somborac is a cellist and faculty member at the University of Music and Theatre Rostock since April 2023. She specializes in baroque cello, contemporary music, and historically informed performance, with affiliations to ensembles like the Furiant Quartet and orchestras including Kammerakademie Potsdam. Her artistic work spans Europe and beyond, featuring performances at festivals like Aix-en-Provence, Rheingau, and Eufonia. She holds a Master’s degree from the Hanns Eisler Music University in Berlin, studying under Thomas Kaufmann and Eberhard Feltz.

Education highlights include studies at Rostock and Berlin, with masterclasses under Heime Müller, members of the Casals and Belcea Quartets, and training in early music with the Freiburger Barockorchester Academy. Her pedagogical engagement includes teaching at Berlin’s Music School City-West and jury roles in competitions. Notable awards include prizes from Slovenia’s National Competition and the Irene Steels-Wilsing Stiftung.
