Nik Ribianszky

Nik Ribianszky is a Senior Lecturer in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen's University Belfast. His research focuses on 17th–19th century African American history, particularly free people of African descent before the Civil War, race relations, and American women's history. He is the author of *Generations of Freedom: Gender, Movement, and Violence in Natchez, 1779-1865* (2021), which uses a transgenerational lens to explore the lives of free Black communities in Natchez. He co-created the Natchez Database of Free People of Color and the Natchez Index, digitized resources now part of the Enslaved.org hub. His current project examines African/American/Irish diasporic interactions, including Irish descendants' roles in slavery systems.

Teaching includes courses like 'Whose Revolution was It? Revolutionary America' and 'Black Women in America.' He collaborates with Matrix Center for Digital Humanities and serves as an editor for the *Journal of Slavery & Data Preservation*. Awards include the Agility Fund Award (2022/2023) and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship (2014).

His work bridges historical scholarship and public engagement, with media appearances on BBC Radio Ulster and KPFK radio. Ribianszky emphasizes genealogical access for descendant communities through his research outputs.
