Prof. Dr. Nihal Aydogan is a full-time Professor at Hacettepe University's Chemical Engineering Department, where she has held faculty positions since 2001 (progressing from Assistant to Associate Professor before becoming Professor in 2011). She previously served as Associate Department Head (2007-2010). Her education includes a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2001), MS from Middle East Technical University (1996), and BS from Ankara University (1992). She leads the Molecular Nanotechnology and Surface Engineering Research Group.
Her research spans nanomaterials, surfactants, colloids, and molecular design, with applications in drug delivery and separation processes. Recent work focuses on:
- Lipid-based nanocarriers for pulmonary/cancer therapeutics
- Stimuli-responsive materials (pH/redox-controlled release)
- Hybrid surfactants for biomedical interfaces
- Water purification technologies
She leads major projects funded by TUBITAK, State Planning Organization (DPT), and L'Oréal, including:
- Design of high-performance surfactants
- Nanoparticle engineering for drug delivery
- Boron removal systems
Awards include:
- Turkish Academy of Sciences Distinguished Young Scientist Award (GEBİP 2007)
- L'Oréal Turkey Women in Science Fellowship (2007)
- Hacettepe University Encouragement Award (2007)
