Nihad Dukhan

Nihad Dukhan is Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Detroit Mercy's College of Engineering & Science. He teaches thermal science courses including Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, and Fluid Mechanics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Dukhan holds PhD, MS in Mechanical Engineering, and MS in Applied Mathematics degrees from the University of Toledo.

His research specializes in experimental, analytical, and numerical modeling of flow and heat transfer phenomena in metal foam for thermal management applications. Key investigations include:

• Characterization of thermal properties in porous media
• Development of computational models for foam-enhanced heat exchangers
• Optimization of lightweight thermal solutions for automotive and aerospace applications

With over 165 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Dukhan has edited the most comprehensive reference book on metal foam fundamentals and applications. His research has been funded by Ford Motor Company, Constellium, DENSO North America, Chrysler Foundation, NSF's Center for Power Electronics and Systems at Virginia Tech, and Pratt & Whitney.

Honors include designation as ASME Fellow, Detroit Mercy's Faculty Achievement Award (2011), and Fulbright Scholarship at Istanbul Technical University (2014-15). He supervises graduate research in thermal sciences and leads the university's Metal Foam Research Laboratory.
