Nigel Stephen Garrow is a Professor at Sheffield Business School, Sheffield Hallam University, where he currently holds his primary academic appointment. He previously served as Professor and Dean at Flinders University Business School (Adelaide, Australia) from 2013, and as Deputy Dean at Western Sydney University Business School until recently. His academic journey began in 2007 at Macquarie Graduate School of Management, where he earned an MBA (2007–2011) followed by a PhD in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Leadership, Hubris, Agency Problems, and Shareholder Value (2013). He holds a 1973 undergraduate degree in Economics and Business Studies from the University of Sheffield.
Nigel has over 30 years of international business experience in Europe as a Managing Director/CEO in food and FMCG firms, including a board role at Dalgety Plc (1997–1999). He actively bridges business practice, education, and research, advocating frameworks for career development in management and governance. His research focuses on M&A dynamics, corporate governance mechanisms, and organizational change. He currently supervises six PhD students exploring 'not for profits', forensic accounting, financial distress factors, and M&A-related topics.
Professional affiliations include membership in the British Academy of Management (BAM) and Fellowship of CPA Australia (2018). He has served as an external examiner for postgraduate courses at Queensland University of Technology (Australia, 2018). Nigel’s work reflects a commitment to innovation in high-growth regions like Western Sydney, influenced by federal infrastructure investments such as the new international airport.
