Professor Nigel McMillan directs research at Griffith University's School of Environment and Science, focusing on virology and cancer with specialization in infectious causes of cancer. His work explores HPV-driven cancers, respiratory viruses (RSV, influenza, SARS-CoV-2), and develops innovative nanoparticle-based gene therapies. Professor McMillan leads the Griffith Centre for Cell and Gene Medicine and contributes to the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics.
Research breakthroughs include discovering HPV receptors, developing lipid nanoparticles for drug delivery, and pioneering CRISPR-based cancer treatments. He teaches advanced topics in molecular medicine, infectious disease, and research methodologies while supervising numerous postgraduate students in virology and cancer biology.
