Dr. Nienke Busscher serves as Coordinator of the Knowledge Platform within the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences at the University of Groningen. Her work focuses on interdisciplinary research addressing societal impacts of gas extraction and earthquakes in the Northern Netherlands. She leads a team conducting policy analysis, organizing public debates, and fostering collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and affected communities.
Research Themes:
- Understanding societal disruptions caused by gas extraction
- Restoring trust and community relations
- Lessons from Groningen for energy transition projects globally
Key projects include analyzing Kiruna, Sweden's mining relocation strategies and evaluating local entrepreneurship resilience. Her platform receives funding from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, National Coordinator Groningen, and regional municipalities.
Advising & Grants: Supervises PhD students Agustín De Julio Pardo and Ena Vojvodic. Collaborates with Full Professor Tom Postmes and researchers like Aziza Zijlstra. Active in grant-funded research on spatial quality, SME resilience, and energy transition policy.
Labs/Teams: Manages the Kennisplatform Leefbaar en Kansrijk Groningen, a multidisciplinary team including communications advisors and project assistants.
