Nielufar Varjavand, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, Department of Medicine. She holds board certification in Internal Medicine with clinical practices focused on Women's Health, Primary Care, and Lifestyle Medicine at Drexel Internal Medicine in Philadelphia.
Dr. Varjavand earned her medical degree from George Washington University and completed residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Her research encompasses physician reentry programs, global health education, medical Spanish curriculum development, partner violence interventions, and healthcare quality improvement. She directs Drexel's Physician Refresher/Re-entry Program and Global Health Education initiatives, including a Medical Spanish elective and research scholars track.
Publications demonstrate strong focus on medical education innovation, particularly in physician workforce development and linguistic/cultural competence in healthcare. Recent works analyze reentry program efficacy and medical Spanish education gaps across U.S. institutions.
As program director for physician reentry initiatives since 2006, she oversees clinical reeducation for returning physicians and advises institutional stakeholders. She serves on the board of the Coalition for Physician Enhancement, contributing to national standards for physician assessment and remediation.
