Niels Brügger is a Professor in Media Studies at the Department of Media and Journalism Studies, School of Communication and Culture, Aarhus University since 2019. He is a co-founder and Head of the Centre for Digital Methods and Media (2020) and previously served as Head of the Centre for Internet Studies (2010-2021) and co-founder of NetLab (2012). His academic career spans digital humanities, internet research, and media methodologies.
Education:

- MA in French and History of Ideas, Aarhus University (1990)
Brügger's research focuses on media theories, digital humanities, web archiving, and the historical development of the internet as a communication medium. He has pioneered digital research infrastructure through NetLab and contributed to national initiatives like DIGHUMLAB.
As a member of Academia Europaea (elected 2022, Section: Film, Media & Visual Studies), he bridges traditional humanities with computational methods. His work emphasizes the epistemological impact of digital tools on academic inquiry.
