Dr. Nidia Aviles Nunez is a Lecturer at the University of West of Scotland's School of Education and Social Sciences, based at the London Campus. She previously taught at the University of Bristol and Bath Spa University, with early career experience as a primary school teacher in the Dominican Republic. Her research focuses on sustainable education, teacher wellbeing, inclusion, and policy analysis in global contexts, particularly in the Global South and island nations. She contributes to UNESCO initiatives, including a forthcoming publication on decolonising teacher professionalism. Teaching interests include critical issues in education, inclusive practices, and dissertation supervision.

Research interests encompass biopolitics, governmentality, and critical pedagogy, with projects on climate protection in the Dominican Republic and teacher wellbeing governance. She explores Buen Vivir (living well) as a framework for inclusive education and policy engagement. Her work aligns with UN SDGs, emphasizing environmental sustainability and social justice.
Recent publications include a comparative education book review (2025), a co-authored UNESCO volume (2024), and peer-reviewed articles on Buen Vivir and teacher movements in Latin America (2019).
