Dr. Nidhish Francis is a Senior Lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology at Charles Sturt University (CSU) within the School of Dentistry and Medical Sciences. His research spans food science, molecular parasitology, and human/animal health, focusing on plant-derived bioactives and milk components for therapeutic applications.
- Education: BVSc. & A.H. (India), MS (University of Connecticut, USA), PhD (University of Melbourne, Australia)
His multidisciplinary work investigates polyphenols from pigmented grains for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties, while also characterizing parasitic infections in wildlife. Recent projects include studying protease-activated receptor-2 in periodontal disease and T-box transcription factors in bone biology.
Publications highlight trends in gut health (Caco-2 models), allergy suppression (RBL-2H3 cells), and parasite ecology (freshwater snails, ducks, deer). His work combines cellular research, transgenic models, and field surveys.
Awards:
- Vice-Chancellor's Research Excellence Award (2022)
As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he champions blended learning (lectures, online resources) to enhance student-teacher engagement. He actively supervises honours, master's, and PhD projects, emphasizing critical thinking and scientific rigor.
