His research examines the Age of Revolutions through the lens of loyalist exiles from the Spanish American Revolutions, focusing on the reconstitution of empire in the Caribbean as an alternative to republican nation-states. His work bridges imperial history, 19th-century political transformations, and transnational exile networks.
The majority of his publications analyze themes of imperial resistance, constitutional monarchism, and ethnic conflict in post-independence Spanish America. His geographic scope spans the Atlantic World, with specific emphasis on Latin America, the Caribbean, and U.S.-Latin American interconnections.
