Nicole Yee Key Li-Jessen is an Associate Professor at the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at McGill University, where she holds the Canada Research Chair in Personalized Medicine of Upper Airway Health and Diseases. She is also an Associate Member of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.
Her research focuses on advancing personalized medicine for voice and upper airway disorders through multidisciplinary approaches integrating in vitro, in vivo, and in silico methodologies. Key projects include developing point-of-care diagnostic platforms for laryngopharyngeal reflux, wearable e-health devices for upper airway monitoring, and immune-centric biomaterials for vocal fold reconstruction.
Bibliometric analysis of her work reveals trends in machine learning for respiratory disease diagnostics, bioinstructive scaffolds, and systems biology applied to vocal fold injury and repair. She has published extensively in Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, and Respiratory Medicine journals.
Scientific Awards
- Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Personalized Medicine of Voice Disorders (2017)
- Rosemary Wedderburn Brown Prize (2018)
- Principal's Prize for Excellence in Teaching (2018)
- Visiting Professorship at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (2019)
- Delegate, Science Meets Parliament, Canadian Science Policy Center (2021)
Her lab mentors PhD and Master’s students in bioengineering, computational modeling, and clinical voice research, with alumni contributing to fields like agent-based simulations, vocal fold regeneration, and machine learning. Collaborations span the McGill Regenerative Medicine Network, CRBLM, and CAMBAM.
