Nicole White is a Senior Research Fellow at Curtin University's School of Molecular and Life Sciences, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Her research focuses on conservation genetics, molecular ecology, and wildlife forensics, leveraging DNA technologies to address biodiversity conservation challenges. She co-founded the Australian Wildlife Forensic Services and is part of the Trace and Environmental DNA (TrEnD) Laboratory. Nicole holds a PhD in Biological Sciences (2012) and has conducted postdoctoral work in ancient DNA and conservation genetics at Murdoch University before joining Curtin in 2014.
Her research interests span population genetics, phylogenetics, and environmental DNA (eDNA) applications. She collaborates with government agencies and industries to apply genetic tools in conservation management and forensic investigations. Nicole mentors HDR students and teaches undergraduate courses at Curtin.
Recent work includes studies on groundwater biodiversity, hypersaline lake ecosystems, and eDNA-based monitoring of endangered species like the Pilbara olive python and estuarine pipefish. Her contributions highlight the integration of cutting-edge molecular methods to inform ecological and conservation strategies.
