Nicole Weckman is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed in the Institute for Studies in Transdisciplinary Engineering Education & Practice (ISTEP) and the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Toronto, where she also holds the Paul Cadario Chair in Global Engineering.
Education
- BASc – University of Waterloo
- MEng – McGill University
- PhD – University of Cambridge
- Postdoctoral Fellowship – Harvard University
Her research group engineers highly sensitive and quantitative biological and biochemical sensors at the convergence of cell-free synthetic biology and micro- to nano-scale sensing systems. The overarching objective is translational design—creating devices that move seamlessly from benchtop to clinical or commercial deployment. A strong emphasis is placed on improving global health diagnostics and developing environmental monitoring tools that can function reliably in resource-limited settings.
