Dr Nicole Vitellone is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Liverpool, specializing in harm reduction policies, drug policy, and qualitative research methods. She holds a PhD from Monash University (1990s) and has held academic positions across multiple UK institutions since 2000, including research fellowships at Lancaster University and Manchester University. Her work bridges sociology, medical humanities, and public policy, focusing on socio-material analyses of health interventions like needle exchange programs and safe sex education.
Her research includes monographs such as Object Matters: condoms, adolescence and time (2008) and Social Science of the Syringe (2017), examining material culture in health policy. Recent publications explore creative methods in recovery studies, drug policy innovations, and descriptive sociology. She has received awards including the AF Warr Memorial Lectureship (2009) and a Wellcome Trust grant (2009-2010).
Vitellone teaches advanced sociological research methods, directs the MA in Social Research Methods, and coordinates modules on medical humanities, deviance, and Foucauldian methodologies. Her pedagogical focus emphasizes critical engagement with social inquiry and applied research practices.
