Nicole Sandblom is a Professor (Teaching) in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Science. She also serves as the Natural Sciences Program Director. Her roles include teaching undergraduate chemistry courses and leading the Faculty of Science's writing course. She holds a B.Sc. (Honours) in Chemistry from Dalhousie University (1994) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Calgary (1999).
Her research focuses on enhancing chemistry education through technology integration in large classes and fostering scientific literacy among non-chemistry students. She investigates methods to improve scientific writing skills, including self-assessment and TA training for feedback. Her work aligns with courses like CHEM 301 (The Chemical World) and SCIE 311 (Write & Review Scientific Reports), which emphasize interdisciplinary science communication and societal impact.
Recognitions include the 2024 Faculty of Science Educational Leadership Award and multiple teaching excellence nominations (2005). She actively contributes to curriculum development bridging scientific communication and evidence-based practices.
