Nicole Rich, M.D., M.S.C.S., is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UT Southwestern), specializing in the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases. She is also a member of the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center and participates in the multidisciplinary Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) clinic. Dr. Rich’s clinical expertise includes managing advanced liver disease and liver cancer, with a focus on transplant hepatology and gastroenterology. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Transplant Hepatology.
Dr. Rich holds a B.S. in Biology and Psychology from Case Western Reserve University, an M.D. from The Ohio State University, and an M.S. in Clinical Sciences from UT Southwestern. Her academic training includes internal medicine residency and fellowship programs in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology at UT Southwestern.
Her research focuses on health disparities in chronic liver disease and HCC, particularly examining racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic factors influencing outcomes. She leads NIH-funded and CPRIT grants and has authored numerous peer-reviewed studies in journals like Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Notable awards include the Texas Health Resources Clinical Scholar Award (2020) and an American College of Gastroenterology career development award.
Dr. Rich actively serves on professional committees, including the American Gastroenterological Association and the UNOS Adult HCC National Liver Review Board. She advocates for equitable care through initiatives targeting HCC surveillance, patient navigation, and reducing disparities in liver disease treatment access.
