Dr Nicole Paula Meehan is a Lecturer in Museum and Heritage Studies at the University of St Andrews' School of Art History. She holds degrees in applied mathematics, archaeology, and American studies. Her research focuses on digital technologies in museums, examining their advantages/limitations and impact on diverse audiences. She explores digital museum objects as polyvocal entities within postdigital ecologies, addressing digital colonialism and environmental costs of digitization.
Educational Background: BSc Applied Mathematics, MA Archaeology, MA American Studies.
Research Projects: Visualising Transnational Museology (funded resource), Investigating Indentured Servitude exhibition (American Philosophical Society fellowship). Current work examines museums' value judgements regarding digital tech and climate crisis.
- Selected Awards: BFWG Beryl Green Prize (2020), Teaching Excellence Award (2021)
Supervised PhD students include Rebecca Mesonjnik and Federica Papiccio. Active in digital humanities and decolonization efforts, she has presented at multiple conferences on topics like climate costs of digitization and ecocritical museum practices.
