Nicole Overmann serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Musicology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, which operates under the Faculty of Philosophy II and is affiliated with the Institute for Music, Media and Speech Sciences (IMMS).
She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, earning both bachelor's and master's degrees in systematic musicology between 2011 and 2018, with additional coursework in sociology and piano pedagogy. Her early musical training included piano and violin instruction, as well as composition and music theory lessons from Prof. Reinhard Pfundt at the Felix Mendelsohn Bartholdy Academy of Music in Leipzig.
Her research explores interdisciplinary connections between music aesthetics, music sociology, and music psychology, with particular emphasis on cross-cultural comparative studies. This multifaceted approach allows her to examine music through both theoretical and sociocultural lenses, investigating how musical expression and perception vary across different cultural contexts.
Since 2018, Dr. Overmann has maintained a dual professional role, combining her academic position with work as a state-certified music teacher at the Neue Schule Magdeburg community school, demonstrating her commitment to both theoretical scholarship and practical music education.
