Dr. Nicole Northrup is a Professor in the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, where she also serves as Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. With over 17 years of clinical experience, she specializes in veterinary oncology and was Georgia's first board-certified veterinary oncologist.
Education: She earned her DVM from Cornell University (1994), completed a Small Animal Medicine/Surgery internship at the Animal Medical Center (New York), and an Oncology residency at Tufts University, achieving ACVIM Oncology board certification in 2000.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on advancing cancer diagnostics and therapies for animals, chemotherapy safety protocols, and minimizing occupational hazards in veterinary oncology settings. Key areas include optimizing treatment efficacy and safety for canine cancers like lymphoma, mast cell tumors, and osteosarcoma.
Awards: Recognized for exceptional service with the Jules and Lucy Silver Animal Bedside Manner Award (1999) and Outstanding Hospital Service Award (2002).
